Jabatan Pertanian Sabah telah secara rasminya wujud sebagai entiti tersendiri sejak November, 1946. Pada peringkat awal, Jabatan Pertanian Sabah juga bertanggungjawab terhadap hal-ehwal perusahaan penternakan haiwan dan\nperikanan.<\/p>

Selepas Sabah mencapai kemerdekaan, beberapa Jabatan dan agensi berasingan telah diwujudkan di bawah Kementerian Pertanian dan Industri Makanan bagi menangani bidang-bidang lain dan aspek-aspek tertentu berhubung dengan pembangunan industri tanaman. Kini, Jabatan Pertanian Sabah adalah di antara beberapa Jabatan dan Agensi di bawah Kementerian ini.<\/p>
